Using our modern HydroChill® cooling technology, we’ve taken on the summer heat in a smart and straightforward way. A basic addition to the turf’s filling supplies an average cooling range of 30-50 degrees and works on its own when hydrated by irrigation, rainfall, and dew.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

EVAPORATIVE COOLING TECHNOLOGY

Perspiration is an ordinary means of thermoregulation called evaporative cooling. Evaporation of condensation from the skin’s surface has a cooling effect. In a similar manner, HydroChill® has shown to cool artificial turf surfaces by working on the same scientific method. As the turf surface warms up with solar radiation, moisture kept in the HydroChill® turf is let go. Evaporating water eliminates heat, creating a cooler, more comfortable green for the players.

• HydroChill® utilizes moisture to create a cooling effect. Rainfall, dew, and irrigation will help keep your lawn cool for days, depending on local conditions.
• HydroChill® can be incorporated into most of Southwest Greens' infilled lawn systems.
• HydroChill® will not affect the stability or warranty of Southwest Greens’ products.
• HydroChill® is UV-resistant and should be re-treated every two years for maximum efficiency.

WHEN IS IT MOST EFFECTIVE?

The temperature outside does not necessarily dictate surface temperature. The solar radiation time period, the angle of the sun, cloud cover, wind, and more elements all contribute to the temperature of the surface.

HydroChill® provides maximum benefit when the sun is closer to the Earth, as illustrated in the solar radiation calendar. Throughout the summer in Pittsburgh, the sun rests high in the sky, causing surfaces to soak up more energy, resulting in higher temperatures. The rotation of the Earth is likewise responsible for hourly variations in sunlight thus making HydroChill® most effective during the hotter time of a clear day when it’s most necessary.
